Outdoor energy storage based on sodium batteries

A novel energy system is being developed in collaboration with the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Biel and the system integrator SWIBOX.

Innovative energy storage system designed for outdoor use, based on modern sodium battery technology. This system offers a sustainable and resource-saving alternative to conventional battery storage systems and is specifically designed for demanding outdoor applications.

The increasing share of renewable energies is leading to a growing need for flexible storage solutions. Amendments to the Energy Act from 2026 create incentives for local energy consumption or storage. Using annual analysis, the potential of battery storage for cost optimization is examined based on measurement data. For this purpose, load and generation profiles are evaluated, and three operating strategies are developed. The results show under which conditions investing in battery storage is worthwhile. Furthermore, additional revenue can be generated through optimized energy procurement and the provision of balancing power.
